January 25, 2006, Tallahassee - The 2006 Varsity Weekend plans have been announced by President Monk Bonasorte, and a preliminary schedule will allow all former FSU athletes to begin making plans to attend.

The Seminole football team will open the season, in Miami, on Labor Day, against the 'Canes, on September 4th, but the following Friday will signal the start of Varsity Weekend, on September 8th, in Tallahassee.

The Annual Varsity Club golf tournament will kick off the festivities, on the 8th, as former athletes and their family members will tee it up at the Don Veller Seminole golf course.  Registration is $110 for Varsity Club members and $125 for their family members.  On Friday night, the Florida State Athletic Hall of Fame will welcome new inductees at the annual dinner in the Futch Ballroom at the stadium's University Club.  Dinner and ceremony tickets are available to the public, prior to Varsity Weekend.  Check with the Club for prices and details.

On Saturday, September 9th, the 'Noles will host Troy State in the home opener football game.  Prior to the game, the Varsity Club will host members and their families at a free barbecue (location to be determined).  Kickoff time for the game will be announced when television contracts are finalized.  The barbecue will commence four hours before to the game.

The tournament will be held at the beautiful FSU Don Veller Golf Club, with a shot-gun start slated for 8:30 for the scramble-format event.  "Mulligans" are for sale prior to the start and players over 60 may hit from the reds, if they so desire.

This year's tournament is named for the late Bill Bunker, former FSU SID and varsity football and baseball player, when he was a student at FSU in the 50's.

The golf outing is the kick-off to the annual Varsity Weekend, September 8 & 9, 2006.  Friday night, the 8th, the 29th Annual Hall of Fame Banquet and Installation will be held at the University Center Club, starting at 6:00 PM.

On Saturday, the Varsity Club is again hosting a free barbecue for Varsity Club members and their families.  The barbecue is being held at Tully Gymnasium, at 3:00.  Members are asked to enter from the rear entrance, across from the tennis courts.  Of course the highlight of the weekend is the home opener in football, against Troy State, with recognition of former athletes, by generation, on the field, prior to kickoff.

The Varsity Club skybox will be open two hours prior to game time. Members in good standing are welcome to come up, with one guest, over the age of 21, for a bite to eat, a cold drink and a reunion with former teammates and friends.  At this time, members might want to speak with
Monk Bonasorte, Club President, about the purchase of seats in the skybox.  There are still seats available in the double-decked facility.

Make your plans now to attend this gala reunion.  It's a great opportunity to renew old acquaintances.
